Why Advertise on Television?

It’s no secret that television advertising can work wonders in increasing customers and sales. But why? This is a question we get asked a lot at Nimic Productions, so we thought we should outline just why television is considered king when it comes to advertising.
Firstly, Australians love television. According to Roy Morgan research figures, watching television is Australia’s favourite leisure activity. The average Australian spends on average 21.15 hours per week watching television. That’s 1095 average hours, or over 6.5 weeks of viewing time per year. And as amazing as that figure is, it’s on the rise. Taking into account this viewing time, coupled with the fact that 99.7 percent of Australians have a television, and 67 percent of homes have more than one television set, you can see just how effective television can be in reaching an audience.

Television advertising is also the most memorable and easily digested formats around. Unlike other formats, television commercials have a variety of tools to call upon to gain a viewer’s attention, such as video, animation, graphics, voice, sound effects and music. A viewer can truly be transported into whatever sensory environment your message is best projected from. This is why many businesses will focus their campaign around a central television commercial concept that solidifies their core message, and then have supporting auxiliary formats (eg. radio, print etc.) built around their television commercial to reinforce their message.
So television advertising is an attention grabbing medium with large audience potential, but what else can it offer? The answer is precision. Australia’s system of measuring viewers’ choice of programming and viewing time is regarded as one of the most accurate in the world. Utilising this powerful medium with knowledge of what your potential customers may be watching makes finding, advertising to, and measuring your audience’s response a lot easier than other advertising formats. This enables a business to monitor their results, therefore maximising their use of advertising budget.
Another factor for the success of television advertising is the confidence factor. No other medium projects the same amount of confidence as television advertising. Confidence builds customers and retains them, therefore increasing sales and helping you to stand out amongst your competition as a solid, trustworthy brand.

So, in short, there are the facts of why advertising on television is so effective in accessing and communicating to large audiences with maximum impact. Of course, if your campaign’s concept, production or choice of programming isn’t perfect, you’re not going to get all the results that a successful television advertising campaign can provide. Here at Nimic, we can guide you through the whole television advertising process, from concepts and production to air-time bookings, licensing and distribution, making sure you get the maximum results from your campaign.
